Homelab

A Ryzen 7 5700G with Ubuntu Server and about 22 Docker Compose containers: smart home with Mosquitto and Home Assistant, media, networking, and dev tools.

InfraIoT

Context

The homelab is where I test real infrastructure without depending on the cloud. It runs on a Ryzen 7 5700G with Ubuntu Server 26.04 and about 22 containers, organized into Docker Compose stacks.

What runs on it

Homelab overviewAccess comes in through WireGuard and Caddy to a Ryzen 7 5700G server with Ubuntu Server, which runs four groups of Docker containers: smart home, media, network, and tools.accessWireGuard · CaddyRyzen 7 5700G · Ubuntu Server~22 containers · Docker Composesmart homeHome AssistantFrigateMosquittomedia and photosJellyfinImmichnetworkPi-holeWireGuardCaddytoolsSonarQubeSearXNGOpen WebUI
  • Network and access: WireGuard for remote access, Pi-hole for DNS, and Caddy as a reverse proxy.
  • Smart home: Home Assistant, Frigate (NVR), and Mosquitto MQTT, the same protocol I studied in my student research at CEFET-MG.
  • Media and photos: Jellyfin and Immich.
  • Tools: SonarQube, SearXNG, and Open WebUI.

Automation and maintenance

  • A Telegram bot in Python powers on the machine with Wake-on-LAN.
  • Secrets stored in KeePassXC.
  • Updates tracked by Renovate, Watchtower, and Diun.
  • Changes planned with the OpenSpec workflow.

Lessons learned

Keeping services running at home teaches what a tutorial doesn't: updating without breaking things, storing secrets properly, and exposing as little as possible.
